Volunteer Training is held once a year in different locations.  Our training session of 2012 will be held at St. Joseph’s Parish. Attendance at each of the four Saturday sessions is mandatory.  Training is necessary, and incredibly important, for those who wish to volunteer at DAS.  We would like a commitment to volunteer for one year.

Please call the DAS office to register

The course is a 20-hour program vital for training participants who will volunteer on the Helpline, who will become Resource Workers who wish to become Speakers/Presenters for DAS, and who want to be elected to the DAS Board.

The interactive, multimedia course is designed to provide participants with the ability to build upon knowledge learned and gained week by week and covers the following:

1. The Catholic Church’s Teachings on Domestic Abuse and Violence
2. Statistics, Police Support and Community Programs
3. The Characteristics of Domestic Abuse,
4. Why Women Stay and Making Healthy Choices
5. Communication skills – with stress on Empathic and Active Listening Skills and Correct forms of Questioning
6. Safety
7. Role Plays on how to take a call on the Helpline
